I have been a keen sportsperson since my teens, most recently as a windsurfer and cyclist. It was mine and my husband’s love of windsurfing that prompted my decision to give up a successful career in journalism to head off to the Hawaiian island of Maui to spend a year by the ocean…and study massage in my spare time!

That was back in 2005, when I started a course at the Maui School of Therapeutic Massage. A year later, I graduated with a Diploma in Therapeutic Massage.

During the year-long course, I studied Anatomy and Physiology, Massage Theory and Technique, Applied Anatomy and Assessment, Neuromuscular Therapy, Treatment of Common Conditions, Sports Massage and Therapeutic Exercise. I also undertook advanced workshops in Hawaiian LomiLomi (Level 2), Orthopaedic Massage for the Extremities, and Structural Bodywork for the Core.

On returning to the UK, I set up a clinic in Shoreham-by-Sea. To continue my professional studies, I also attended workshops in the Hendrickson Method of Orthopaedic Massage & Manual Therapy, through Flexible Healing Training in Leeds; as well as a Holistic Medical Massage Foundation Course and Techniques for Neck and Upper Shoulder Pain and Deep Tissue Massage, through Brighton-based Jing Advanced Massage Training.

In February 2017, I completed a 180-hour programme in Orthopaedic Massage & Manual Therapy (with Flexible Healing Training), and am now qualified to use the title Hendrickson Method Practitioner. For more information on the Hendrickson Method, please click here.

Meanwhile, my husband and I moved to Cumbria in 2009, and have spent more than 13 happy years there.

We're now back "down South", having moved to the Isle of Wight in January 2024. I'm now based in Shanklin, at my own little treatment room in Yarborough Arcade.
